Overctrl Community Guidelines

1. Purpose and Scope

These Community Guidelines (“Rules”) define acceptable and prohibited behavior on Overctrl.

They apply to:

  • All users of Overctrl,
  • All current and future interactive features, including discussions, comments, reactions, uploads, and other user-generated content.

These Rules apply immediately, even if certain social features are not yet enabled.

They supplement, and do not replace, the Usage Agreement and Privacy Policy.


2. Core Principle

Overctrl is a developer-focused platform.

Participation must remain:

  • Technical,
  • Constructive,
  • Respectful,
  • Free of abuse, manipulation, or deception.

Anything that undermines these goals may be moderated.


3. Allowed Content and Behavior

Users may:

  • Post technical discussions, questions, and commentary related to software, open source, and ecosystems.
  • Comment on releases, repositories, issues, and platform content.
  • Start discussions or threads in good faith.
  • React to content (likes, votes).
  • Upload files or images where functionality exists.
  • Share AI-generated content only if clearly disclosed.

4. Prohibited Content and Behavior

The following are not allowed on Overctrl:

4.1 Abuse and Harassment

  • Harassment, threats, or intimidation.
  • Hate speech or discriminatory content.
  • Personal attacks unrelated to technical discussion.

4.2 Spam and Manipulation

  • Spam, repetitive posting, or engagement farming.
  • Artificial amplification of content.
  • Coordinated manipulation of visibility or rankings.

4.3 Misrepresentation and Impersonation

  • Impersonating individuals, organizations, or maintainers.
  • Misleading claims of affiliation with GitHub or Overctrl.
  • False authority or credentials.

4.4 Malicious or Harmful Content

  • Malware, exploits, or harmful payloads.
  • Instructions intended to facilitate illegal activity.
  • Abuse of platform features to disrupt service integrity.

4.5 Undisclosed AI-Generated Content

  • AI-generated posts presented as human-authored without disclosure.

4.6 Commercial Misuse

  • Excessive self-promotion.
  • Promotional content that detracts from platform purpose.
  • Use of Overctrl primarily as an advertising channel.

5. Moderation and Enforcement

Overctrl operates manual moderation.

At its sole discretion, Overctrl may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Remove content.
  • Reduce content visibility.
  • Restrict features (e.g. read-only mode).
  • Temporarily suspend accounts.
  • Permanently ban accounts.
  • Block access where necessary to protect the service or users.

Enforcement decisions may consider:

  • Severity,
  • Repetition,
  • Intent,
  • Risk to the platform or other users.

There is no obligation to apply measures progressively.


6. Reporting and Appeals

6.1 Reporting

Users may report content they believe violates these Rules.

Abuse of reporting mechanisms may itself result in enforcement action.

6.2 Appeals

Users may appeal moderation decisions.

Appeals are reviewed manually. Overctrl is not required to reverse a decision following review.


7. No Right to Platform Access

Access to Overctrl is not a right.

Overctrl may restrict or revoke access:

  • To enforce these Rules,
  • To comply with legal obligations,
  • To protect platform integrity.

8. Transparency and Legal Context

These Rules are designed to comply with:

  • Applicable EU law,
  • The Digital Services Act (DSA),
  • German civil and consumer protection law.

Overctrl is not obligated to host or continue hosting any content.


9. Changes

These Rules may be updated at any time.

The current version will always be made available on the Overctrl website. Continued use of Overctrl constitutes acceptance of the updated Rules.
